Justin.tv, a popular video broadcasting service, has now extended its offerings to the iPhone. Now users can upload live broadcasts using the new Justin.tv iPhone application. You can access this updated free application here.
As exciting as release is, Justin.tv is still a little late to the game. The biggest concerns for the company included the smoothness of the frame rate, video resolution and video upload time. However, standardization and progress in the hardware (smart phones) and software development kits have made it quite possible. As mentioned in this report:
Live mobile broadcasting ambitions have long been works in progress by broadcast companies like Qik, Bambuser, Juicecaster, and Ustream, however hardware and software limitations with frame rate smoothness and video upload time have hobbled progress. Enhancements to software development kits, hardware in the form of dedicated encoding processors, and standards like H.264 compression are instrumental in creating reliable, high-quality video outputs, Evan Solomon, Justin.tv’s VP of Marketing, told us.
Earlier this month the live stream service was launched for Android. Justin.tv saw a sharp rise in video uploads from Android phones after the application launched, and now we can expect much of the same with the iPhone release. The major benefit being increased mobility for users is a necessary direction for Justin.tv to take.
