iPad Two Player Arcade: Dust Up For Two

Taking social gaming to a different extreme, Huikea Experience brings us an iPad strategy game for two players: Dust Up For Two. Just barely into the beta stage (and they’re looking for testers) the video provided for actual game play looks extremely fun. Reminiscent of those retro tabletop arcade games that so many people may have noticed at their local Pizza Hut (back when they had restaurant style buildings) the game is played between two people, looking down at an iPad, facing one another.

“We are a small game studio founded by two guys,” Huikea Experience says about themselves. “We’ve been developing Dust Up for a few months and play testing it with friends and random people in bars and parties. Reception has been promising: a group of early testers got so excited that they already organized world’s first Dust Up tournament by themselves.”

With single-finger movements units are brought out of holding pens and placed onto a battlefield where they blast at one another across space. Red and blue turrets are available depending on the player’s side and the appearance of varying capabilities that affect deployment strategy. Numerous backgrounds and environments from a lunar effect to space filled with twinkling stars.

And, of course, no lack of explosions. Boom! Do I have your attention?

Listening to the video, the game also has excellent sound. With thunderous crackles following the collapse of an opponents line of defense and the subsequent flashes and booms as her units perish under the onslaught. It seems to run with little lag, beautiful graphics, and good sound effects. All the winning attributes of an excellent game.

It’s unknown if this game takes advantage of the iPad2’s new video capabilities; but it certainly could use the multi-touch facility in case the second player feels anxious about getting their unit out before the previous player is done with their turn. As the game appears to be a little bit real-time as much as it is turn based. The video seems to show that players do not put their fingers on the screen at the same time. The iPad 2 certainly has the upgraded fortitude for gaming (specs) but it looks like this game is developed for iPad.

As the iPad2 is exceedingly popular this will hopefully lead Huikea Experience and Dust Up For Two into the limelight as well. The concept appears novel and I really like the dynamic aspect of being able to invite a friend to play alongside in a thrilling strategy game.

If you have an iPad or the much-desired iPad 2: Get in on beta testing this game!
