QLogic on a Fibre Streak, Teams with Huawei
Networking and storage technology provider QLogic announced it has entered an original equipment manufacturer agreement with Huawei Symantec, a maker of network security solutions. Huawei is now resseling QLogic’s 5800 Series stackable switches and 9000 Series core switches for Fibre Channel Fabrics.
“With operations throughout the world, this pact allows us to expand QLogic Fibre Channel switch revenues in China, Asia Pacific, Japan and around the globe,” said Martin Darling, vice president and general manager, Asia Pacific and Japan.”
QLogic’s switches allow companies to buy only as many units they require, hence offering a more economic offering than some competing technology makers. The QLogic 5800V Series switches are designed specifically to answer virtualization and computing / storage resource scaling, while the QLogic 9000 Series switches are meant to support hundreds of server and storage nodes incluidng blade servers and VMs.
This partnership comes shortly after we’ve learned QLogic optimized its 10GbE converged network adapters for the competitor Cisco’s Data Center Fabric. QLogic plans to monetize this new move and simultaneously preserve its leadership status in the market, and, it seems its doing a pretty good job at it. The company’s Q3 earnings surged by 76 percent in terms of revenue growth, alongside net revenue of $155.8 million.
Going back to Huawei Symantec, the company beat EMC on the SPECsfs2008 NFS benchmark. An OceanSpace N8500 with eight clustered processing engines scored 636,036 operations/second, which is over 100,000 operations per second more than EMC’s record of 497,632. A bit before that, the company introduced the Oceanspace T-Series storage arrays at Storage Networking World in Santa Clara, Calif. The array of features include automatic performance tuning, remote replication and data migration, support for up to 1,000 disk drives, among other updates.
