Galaxy Nexus Could Hit US Stores Dec. 9

The Samsung Galaxy Nexus arrived in the UK mid-November and since its launch, it was already criticised for having a volume bug when connected on 2G.  But still, Fandroids based in the US are still eager to get their hands on the device.  The Galaxy Nexus is already available in Germany, a week early than its scheduled German launch.  It was reported that the Galaxy Nexus would arrive in US stores by December 8th but a report from Rootzwiki indicates otherwise.

The report showed two files hinting that the Galaxy Nexus will be delivered in stores by Deceber 6, today, but cannot be displayed or sold until December 9 – the official launch date of the Galaxy Nexus in the US.  The information was said to be from an authorized Verizon retailer.

Verizon is still keeping mum about when the device would be released–you can’t even see a clue on their webpage.  They just state that the Nexus will be released before the end of 2011.  Everyone likes a good surprise, but most companies, when they are about to launch a highly anticipated product, will give out little hints or teasers to entice their customers.

While there’s still a few things we don’t know about the Nexus (i.e. an exact launch date), we do know that Verizon will not be using Google Wallet on the Galaxy Nexus.  Instead they will be utilizing Isis, the mobile payment Verizon is developing with AT&T and T-Mobile.

Though the Galaxy Nexus is a Google product, you’d expect that it would have Google Wallet, but since Android is an open platform, Google cannot impose or control network carriers or phone manufacturers to stick with their product.  So even if Google thought that the Galaxy Nexus would be groundbreaking for the Google Wallet, they might have to put that thought on hold.  This is just one of the downsides of being an open platform.
