Apple and IBM add 8 new iOS apps and 2 new industries to MobileFirst for iOS
The partnership between Apple and IBM has produced eight more iOS apps for the enterprise. Released on Tuesday, new industry-specific iOS apps have been added for two new industries, namely Healthcare and Industrial Products, in addition to new iOS apps for Travel and Transportation, Retail and Insurance.
Announced last July, the Apple-IBM partnership has already brought to market 14 industry-specific iOS apps serving numerous industries, including Banking and Financial Markets, Energy and Utilities, Telco, Law Enforcement and more.
Here are the latest iOS apps to be added to IBM’s MobileFirst for iOS solutions by industry:
Healthcare
Hospital RN
Designed for iPhone, the app lets nurses swap their pagers for iPhones and allows access to patient record from anywhere in the hospital. The app uses iBeacon technology to let nurses automatically locate patients and push notifications that display patient requests, lab status, safety alerts and prioritized task lists.
Hospital Lead
Designed for iPad, the app streamlines the management of nurses and other staff. Tasks can be organized and assigned to team members, with the app handling task prioritization and status updates. A unified dashboard combines information from multiple hospital databases to streamline complex task like patient discharge.
Hospital Tech
Connecting nurse technicians with care teams, this iPhone app provides real-time lab status, safety alerts, patient requests and task lists directly from a hospital’s systems of record.
Home RN
Using their iPhone, nurses delivering in-home care to patients can add photos, videos, text and audio notes to patient records and share them with the care team via push notifications. iOS’s built-in location-based services help nurses find patients’ homes and locate nearby pharmacies, urgent care centers and labs.
Industrial Products
Rapid Handover
Using the app on an iPad, a foreperson can share information like production goals, equipment maintenance and crew lists with incoming shift members. Safety hazards and equipment requiring maintenance and repairs can be documents in the app using an iPads built-in camera and dictation functionality.
Travel and Transportation
Ancillary Sale
Flight attendants can sell seat upgrades, food and beverages, and duty-free merchandise directly from an iPhone and accept payment via Apple Pay and swipe credit card terminals. The app also stores customer history and allows flight attendants to make suggestions based on past purchases.
.
Insurance
Risk Inspect
The app lets insurance inspectors capture video and photo on-site and suggests focus areas through analytics. Inspectors can access data such as claim history, environmental and structural data, and neighborhood crime statistics to refine their decision-making process.
Retail
Order Commit
The last app on the list lets merchants access metrics on financial targets and sell-through whether in the office or in-store. Using the iPad camera, a merchant can snap a photo of a product and immediately model its performance against similar items.
This latest round of iOS enterprise apps brings the total number of apps produced by the Apple-IBM partnership to 22, covering 10 industries. The two companies intend to launch a total of 100 iOS apps through the partnership by the end of 2015.
