Samsung rumored to launch 3 new Galaxy S6 models before Galaxy Note 5

Amid rumors that Samsung Electronics Co Ltd. is rushing to launch its Galaxy Note 5 phablet in late August, other rumors suggest that the South Korean tech giant may also launch three new Galaxy S6 models this year: a Galaxy S6 Edge Plus, a Galaxy S6 Plus, and a Galaxy S6 Mini.

Below is a roundup of rumored specs and release date for the three devices:

Galaxy S6 Edge Plus

Citing “insider sources”, Sam Mobile claims it has learned that the Galaxy S6 Edge Plus will feature a 5.7-inch display curved on both sides like the standard Galaxy S6 Edge. The site also expects the Galaxy S6 Edge Plus to come preinstalled with Android 5.1.1.

An alternate rumor reported by Android Pit references an online video from “popular YouTube personality Marques Brownlee” purportedly showing off the Galaxy S6 Edge with only a 5.5-inch screen. Android Pit noted that the video shows that the device retains the curved screen, fingerprint scanner and the same speaker/sensor setup as the Galaxy S6 Edge “but on a larger frame.”

As for a release date, the same publication expects Samsung to unveil the Galaxy S6 Edge Plus at the upcoming IFA 2015 consumer electronics tradeshow taking place in Berlin September 4 to 9.

Samsung Galaxy S6 Plus

Android Origin claims Samsung is slated to release a 5.5-inch Galaxy S6 Plus featuring a Snapdragon 808 processor “as a stop gap solution” for users in the market for a true phablet sized smartphone until the Galaxy Note 5 becomes available.

No expected release date was shared, but if Samsung is in fact rushing to bring the Galaxy Note 5 to market, and the Galaxy S6 Plus is real, it could hit the market around July or early August.

Samsung Galaxy S6 Mini

Samsung has release “Mini” version of its flagship phones for several years running now and this year will be no different claims Android Origin.

A Galaxy S6 Mini with a 4.6 inch HD display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 processor, Adreno 418 GPU and 2 GB of RAM could go on sale as early as late June or during July, claims the publication.

It speculates that the Galaxy S6 Mini could boast a 16-megapixel rear camera with optical image stabilization and a 5-megapixel front-facing camera.
