Want to earn Bitcoin while playing Minecraft? Well now you can

Do you like playing Minecraft and wouldn’t mind earning some Bitcoin along the way?

OK, so that’s not something many would have pondered before, but now you actually can, with prominent Minecraft server PlayMC now offering that very feature.

The service, dubbed by the company as its “Bitconomy,” allows players to earn Bits, a domination that is worth 1/100,000,000 of a Bitcoin every time they play a game within PlayMC’s servers; if you’re not familiar with a Minecraft server, usually within each “world” so to speak there are games that can be played, everything from the most very basic, through to complicated, multiplayer games.

As the company explains:

On PlayMC we make earning Bitcoins as easy and simple as playing your favorite game. Just by playing ArcherGames for instance, on every kill you will be earning Bits. On every win you will earn more Bits. Keep playing to reach the threshold to withdraw into Bitcoins via our website and you’ll have actual Bitcoins to use however you wish. There will be tons of ways to earn Bitcoin from PlayMC.

Teaching kids about Bitcoin

The interesting angle of the new service is that the feature is also being pitched as a way to teach kids about Bitcoin.

“Currently people can only speculate on the future of digital currencies and what role Bitcoin will play in our financial future,” the company said in a statement. “However it is clear that this technology is thriving and the earlier kids can be educated on Bitcoin and how digital currencies work the better for them in the future.”

PlayMC’s server is more focused on content for kids, although there’s nothing stopping adults playing the same games, it’s just that those games may not necessarily appeal.

It’s a good idea, and realistically it’s not costing the company much to provide small bitcoin amounts as an incentive to get more people using their services, although if you’ve got a pre-teen son, you’ll know that incentivization isn’t required when it comes to playing Minecraft.

The Bitconomy earn Bits feature is currently available on one player games within PlayMC, with the company hoping to expand Bit rewards later to channels such as bug reporting, tournaments, bounties and even the provision of services for the company such as writing articles or assisting with server maintenance.
