Watch Samsung Gear S2 teaser: Full specs we expect | #unpacked

One last thing… Seemingly taking a cue from the late Steve Jobs’ Apple product presentations, Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. waited until the end of its Unpacked event today to post a teaser of its next smartwatch iteration, the Gear S2. While Samsung offered no details on the Gear S2 beyond a quick slideshow of product images, the South Korean electronics behemoth unveiled two new handsets: the Galaxy S6 edge+ smartphone, and the Galaxy Note 5 phablet with an improved S Pen stylus and a keyboard.

From what we can see, the Gear S2 smartwatch looks so much better than the original rectangular Gear S, but the round face also isn’t so distinct, looking very much like Motorola’s Moto 360 smartwatch. You can’t really fault Samsung, however, for seeking a more streamlined and traditional look to its wrist-bound computer.

While Samsung offered no specs on the Gear S2, we can add the brief slideshow to the expectations floating around the rumor mill and surmise a few hopeful features for the pending smartwatch.

Expected specs for Samsung Gear S2

Codenamed Orbis, the device is said to feature a Super AMOLED display with a 360×360 pixels resolution at 305ppi. The smartwatch is likely to be powered by the Exynos 3472 dual-core processor clocked at 1.2 GHz, the Mali-400 MP4 GPU clocked at 450 MHz and 768 MB of RAM.

The Gear S2 could also come with 4GB of onboard storage, 250 mAh battery, Bluetooth 4.1, 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi standards and Wi-Fi Direct,  a built-in GPS, accelerometer, gyro, barometer and heart rate sensors.

Samsung is expected to officially launch the Gear S2 at IFA 2015 which will be held in Berlin, Germany from September  4-9, 2015.
