Catalogic extends support to IBM platforms | #VMworld

VMworld 2015 attendees had many discussions about hybrid environments and industry transformation, according to Bina Hallman, VP of IBM Storage and Software Defined Systems. “We talk to clients about some of the business transformations, the dynamics in the industry, new applications, and new workloads,” Hallman told Dave Vellante of theCUBE, from the SiliconANGLE Media team, during VMworld 2015. “Clients also have concerns around investment protection: how to take their existing environment and transform it. We focus on helping our clients transform their existing infrastructure and adopt new applications.”

IBM storage platforms now have support from Catalogic Software, Inc., which recently announced that its ECX 2.2 will deliver “in-place” copy data management support for IBM Storage platforms that include Storwize, SVC, v9000 and IBM FlashCopy Manager.

“For IBM, it gives them lifecycle management, automation orchestration and self-service,” said Catalogic Software CEO Ed Walsh, who also joined theCUBE. “ECX 2.2 allows storage and virtualization administrators to create customized templates for all of their key processes that involve the creation or use of data copies.”

Hallman discussed the full range of IBM offerings featured at VMworld, which varies from primary storage to flash systems. She also said that clients want “flexible consumption models,” whether as hybrid cloud or another platform. “Having the flexibility to leverage a consistent set of capabilities is powerful,” she said. “It gives clients the flexibility that they need for different use cases.”
