How to add and switch between multiple Instagram accounts on Android and iOS

On Monday, Facebook-owned Instagram Inc. announced that users of its Android and iOS apps will be able to add and switch between multiple accounts without the need to first log out of an active account and sign in to a new account.

The new feature, available in version 7.15 of both the Android and iOS versions of the Instagram app, will allow users to add up to five Instagram accounts – stay logged in to all of them – and quickly switch between them with just a few taps.

How to add and switch between multiple Instagram accounts on Android and iOS

You can now add up to five Instagram accounts to your Android or iOS app.

To add Instagram accounts, go to your profile and tap the gear icon (iOS) or the three vertical dots (Android) in the top right corner > scroll down and tap Add Account > enter the username and password for the account you want to add (repeat until you’ve added all your Instagram accounts or you reach the limit of five).

To switch between your Instagram accounts, go to your profile > tap your username at the top of the screen > tap the account you want to switch to.

How to remove an Instagram account from your Android or iOS app

If you want to remove an account from your Instagram app, go to your profile > switch to the account you want to remove > tap the gear icon (iOS) or the three vertical dots (Android) in the top right corner > scroll down and tap Log out of [username] or Log out of All Accounts.

Note: If you select Log out of All Accounts, this will remove ALL the Instagram accounts added to the app and you will have to re-add them.

How to manage push notifications for multiple Instagram accounts on Android and iOS

According to Instagram, “If you’ve added multiple Instagram accounts, you may get push notifications from any account that has them turned on. This depends on when you last logged in and the number of devices that are logged in to an account.”

You might be driven crazy by push notifications if you have two or more Instagram accounts on one device, so you should choose carefully which notifications you want to receive.

To adjust and manage your push notifications on Android and iOS, go to your profile > tap the gear icon (iOS) or the three vertical dots (Android) in the top right corner > scroll down and tap Push Notification Settings > adjust the available settings for Likes, Comments, New Followers, Accepted Follow Requests, Friends on Instagram, Instagram Direct Requests, Instagram Direct, Photos of You, Reminders, First Photo, and Product Announcements.
