China Owns the World’s Fastest Supercomputer
China takes the title from United States as it announced Wednesday at a conference in Beijing, China, the Tianhe-1A, currently the world’s fastest supercomputer. It beats out the Cray XT5 Jaguar.
A supercomputer is basically an accumulation and network of many computers, normally occupying an entire room. They are mainly used for processing massive quantities of scientific data like climate models.
The new title holder can calculate 2.507 petaflops of data at once, defeating the previous title holder which can complete 1.75 petaflops. China now takes it place in the world’s tech elites.
Computer technology company Nvidia said that Tianhe-1A will be operated as an open access system for massive scientific calculations.
