RIAA Under Attack After Limewire Shutdown; Alternatives Sought

Following the recent fall of the P2P (or peer-to-peer) downloading station, Limewire, RIAA received anonymous attacks from some internet groups. These online clusters were successful in hacking and making the RIAA website crash. The said attack was sort of “payback time” for Limewire’s sake. It can be remembered that RIAA was the one campaigning the hardest for Limewire to shut down for good.

The debacle Limewire is presently hurdling has forced the organization to lay off 29 of their almost a hundred employees. But, despite these negative reports, the P2P software outfit has mentioned about their plan to launch another project relating to music and downloading.

Limewire has gained solid following over a period of time for its unique peer-to-peer sharing activity. Downloading becomes faster as source and the person work together. The secret project Limewire is working on now was regarded as the “grapevine”, but no further details were discussed by its owner Mark Gorton.

The recent news on Limewire shutdown alarmed the downloading public. As early as now, they are searching for alternatives as the big question of “How will I download songs now?” glares. But, there is good news beyond the dissolution of the ever-popular downloading site: the Gnutella network where they get the actual songs did not shut down. This means, you can just replace Limewire with another program and you can download songs from Gnutella again.  Here are the 3 alternatives mentioned in recent reports: Frostwire (the closest you can get to the original Limewire), Cabos and MP3 Rocket.
