Hewlett-Packard will begin to offer the HP DreamScreen touch-screen and video chat supporting desktop later this month, in 700 outlets located in 60 cities within the Indian market. The DreamScreen will be sold for 19,999 Indian rupees, equivalent to around $442.
“Hewlett-Packard Co. said it will offer a new desktop personal-computer in India, after the global industry leader lost market share to rival Dell Inc. in Asia’s third-biggest economy…Hewlett-Packard’s share of the Indian PC market fell to 13.7 percent last quarter…”
The Indian market has seen exponential growth in the technology sector for years now, and the battles around devices and services is only getting steeper as the industry settles and becomes more systemized. On the mobile end, RIM is seeing first hand how this industry is taking shape around technology, access and its surrounding legalities, having played out a long and ongoing discussion with Indian authorities on BlackBerry messaging.
Leading with %16.7 of the Indian PC market, Dell may face the possibility of losing its rank fairly soon, but that’s not everything on the company’s mind. Dell had to deal with some intense competition from IBM and HP, as it’s now in recovery mode. After losing the bidding war for 3Par to Hewlett-Packard, Dell has sustain serious shrinkage of its domain, and is now focusing on developing Android and Windows Phone 7 tablets. Dell’s already suffered a setback on the mobile front, however, as one of its leading executives has recently stepped down.
In spite of its long-time competitor’s downturn, HP is also getting competitive with Cisco, as it has recently extended its studio-based halo videoconference line with a new desktop running on new Scalable Video Coding software. This is not very good news for Cisco but it is for the users, as the greater the competition the better are the offerings.
