QLogic and Juniper Bring 10G Ethernet to QFabric

Networking gear vendor QLogic said today its 8200 Series 10GbE converged network adapters have been certified by Juniper Networks to meet the standards of QFabric environments. QFabric is a family of products and services that aims to collapse the traditional three-layer datacenter network structure, which naturally got Juniper a lot of well-earned hype when it first rolled out.

Juniper is in the process of constantly improving its offering, most recently by looking into 10GB Ethernet, an area where QLogic is one of the market leaders.  QLogic 8200 Series adapters and QFabric can now be deployed together to achieve a performance boost, the companies promise.

“The interoperability of QLogic 8200 Series adapters and Juniper’s QFabric family of products unleashes a powerful end-to-end converged networking solution designed to improve efficiency, agility, performance and scale,” said Anjan Venkatramani, vice president, Product Line Management, Juniper Networks.

QLogic is also working on making its product more attractive to enterprises, and this latest partnership represents an equally significant push for both companies. Late last month QLogic updated its 3200 and 8200 Series adapters for the same purpose, adding NIC partitioning (NPAR) to further optimize these product families for virtualized environments. The technology can help reduce the strain the OS puts on the hardware supporting in and reducing bottlenecks, consequently boosting provisioning.

Juniper in turn has been investing in its mobile portfolio lately. It entered into an agreement with phonemaker Samsung to pre-install Junos Pulse and Junos Pulse Mobile on selected devices. The first three on that list are the GALAXY Note, GALAXY SII and GALAXY Tab 10.1. This enables the two companies to make their individual offerings more attractive to enterprise customers, while competitors like Cisco went as far as building their own handsets. In the case of the networking giant it’s Cius, an Android-powered enterprise tablet.
