Geeks Seek Love, Need the Millionaire Matchmaker

Silicon Valley is like a pool filled with millionaires, young and old.  Many are married or in a relationship, which may not sound surprising– there’s no shortage of woman that are attracted to such resourceful men.  But let’s not forget that most people in Silicon Valley with deep pockets and huge bank accounts are often nerds or geeks. And even if they’re nice enough to look at, years of nerdiness has left many Silicon Valley bachelors inept when it comes to talking to a girl.  They’re more comfortable talking with their colleagues, and better yet, they’re too busy with their next revolutionary product that they don’t have time to go on dates, or can’t even find proper dates since they rarely step out of their fortress.

So what is a millionaire to do?  Be content with their wealth and no one special to share it with?  Go through life alone and be buried with their money?  No, Patti Stanger has the perfect solution for these lovelorn geeks.

Stanger is the founder of The Millionaire’s Club, an exclusive international dating service that matches wealthy, successful males to women from all over the world.  Not just anyone can join–Stagner’s team does a thorough background check for both men and women (though women can join for free).  The Millionaire’s Club and Stanger are at the core of Bravo Tv’s Millionaire Matchmaker.  For those of you living under a rock, it’s a reality show that features wealthy men of all ages, looking for the perfect partner.  Stanger finds them women based on the men’s physical preference and interests, as well as the needs they don’t even admit to themselves.

Last year, Dylan Smith, CFO of Box (formerly Box.net) appeared on the show looking for love.  Stanger referred to Smith as the biggest nerd she’s ever seen and kept referring to him as “the nerd.”  Smith’s dream girl is Scarlett Johansson, so Stanger went out and got him his Johansson look-alike. To loosen Smith up and make him more appealing to the ladies, Stagner sent him for dance lessons, which were rather painful to watch.  Smith showed his lawnmower dance move on his date, which apparently made him “nerdy cute.”  His choice date even visited Smith in his Palo Alto office.

Another Silicon Valley millionaire, WePay CEO Bill Clerico, tried his luck at finding ‘The One’ on Millionaire Matchmaker as well.  When Stanger learns that Clerico is a red head, she automatically thinks that it would quite tricky to find him a match.  Because of his red hair, added to the eight-to-one ratio of men to women in Palo Alto, Clerico is having trouble on the dating scene.  His dream girl is Anne Hathaway,  but with Tina Fey’s personality.

“Nerds with sex appeal equals to husband,” according to Stanger as she describes Clerico as having an ‘Eric Stoltz’ appeal.

Stanger introduced Clerico to Jenny McCarthy, former Playboy Bunny, to see how he fares with hot women.  If he can handle McCarthy, he can handle any woman.  Clerico brought his A-game the day he was sent to meet the women.   He chose Tracy, a down to earth brunette from Missouri, for the Master Date, taking her to the Santa Monica Pier.  The date was going well until the kiss on the Ferris wheel; instead of the French Kiss Stanger and McCarthy told him to do, he gave her a peck.

Though these geeks got game, they still failed to seal the deal.  and from what I’ve seen, they clearly need help on the dating scene.  Not everything can be taught.  I wonder which Silicon Valley millionaire will be asking for Stanger’s help next?
