IBM Launches Intelligent Appliance to Stop Threats Before They Happen
One click and an entire organization’s data may find itself at risk. Employees’ social media and online access is already an apparent security loophole within most companies nowadays. This is why preventive measures, full control and visibility on where they go on web and eliminate risky browsing behavior are becoming essential for IT departments. These are what global tech leader IBM wanted to tackle with IBM Security Network Protection XGS 5000, a newly released advanced threat detection appliance.
Proactively protecting corporate proprietary from hazards such as malwares and Advanced Persistent Threats (APTs), the new class of network security application will deliver a more granular approach with simplified management interface. Before Internet security threats could impact the business and preventing “zero-day” exploits, it will be able to stop them by helping clients deal with sophisticated attacks threatening their organization, providing increased visibility into precisely what applications are being accessed on the network, where users are going on the web, with the ability to monitor and take full control such activities. It carries integrated global threat intelligence from X-Force which includes a Web filter database of over 15 billion URLs, capable of monitoring and categorizing millions of Web servers and applications daily to offer superior defense versus the varying cyber threat landscape. The core of product was built from the IBM Security Network Intrusion Prevention System and will be beneficial for enterprises across various industries.
The medical field sees a lot of potential in this appliance. In fact, Peter Param, Manager of Network and Security, from St. Vincent’s Hospital in Australia relates, “IBM Security Network Protection gives us a better view of our security posture and what is taking place on our network. With more than 1,000 distinct users, as well as sizable traffic from streaming video and social media sites, knowing which employees are authorized to access particular sites throughout the day, as well as knowing which applications are being used on our network, is critical in optimizing it as well as increasing our security posture.”
Being the youngest of IBM’s Advanced Threat Protection Platform, IBM Security Network Protection XGS 5000 engage in pinning down masked assaults within mobile, cloud and social media spaces.
In an official statement during the launch, Brendan Hannigan, General Manager at IBM Security Systems Division said, “The escalation of targeted attacks and rapid adoption of mobility, cloud and social media requires companies to take a new approach to securing the enterprise. IBM is uniquely positioned to help our customers address these challenges with our new Advanced Threat Protection Platform that combines total security intelligence from within the enterprise, exhaustive external threat intelligence and the new XGS appliance that delivers fine-grained activity detection and control.”
Included in the product framework are IBM Web Application Security which safeguards web apps with IBM Proventia Web Security for the same security of a stand-alone web application firewall and IBM Security Content Analysis technology that is responsible for critical data.
Several companies have been taken down and menaced by the growing numbers of cyber intruders. As attacks become more organized security appliance systems will just have to keep up with the sophistication of the web villains. With tech as the backbone of their business, IBM strives to assist clients with their security needs while reducing operational costs. Let’s see how competitors will answer in days to come.
