Project Savanna was quite a draw this week at the #OpenStack Summit. Originally started by Mirantis, the largest independent vendor of OpenStack services, Project Savanna now includes Hortonworks, one of the largest open source distributors of Apache Hadoop, and Red Hat, one of the largest Linux and open source technology providers. There have been considerable amounts of complaints on how difficult it is to setup an OpenStack cloud, while equally as many on how difficult it is to setup a Hadoop cluster. The three behind Project Savanna believe automating the process of installing both OpenStack and Hadoop is the answer. The idea of virtualizing Hadoop is not new, and their efforts take aim squarely at enterprise server virtualization juggernaut VMware.
On today’s Live NewsDesk Show with Kristin Feledy (see live stream below) we’ll be hearing from Wikibon analyst Jeff Kelly. Does he like this partnership? Why is virtualizing Hadoop so important? Look for Jeff to give keen insight on Project Savanna.
