What to expect
HP’s been under a great deal of pressure to deliver on the many changes its made in the past two years, but the company is still struggling amidst its massive turnaround. HP’s cache of products, particularly 3PAR’s all-flash capabilities and Vertica’s Big Data appeal, are central to the company’s long term goals, being amongst the most noteworthy product acquisitions and launches for HP during this transition.
Though HP’s cash flow remains good and the company is steadily paying down its debt, its “PC business is still problematic,” says Wikibon co-founder and cohost of theCUBE, Dave Vellante. He goes on to note the strength of HP’s printer business, as well as the company’s most recent earnings that brought a surprisingly good quarter for its server business.
Where HP is still looking to gain traction is in cloud and mobile markets, and the public sector. In its hopes to broaden business beyond the private cloud, HP recently hired Stuart Bladen, the company’s new head of public sector business for HP’s UK offices.
We may also see some new product lines revealed at HP Discover Barcelona, and Vellante expects anticipates these new products will have to do with storage, applying a “storeonce and storeall” approach to the datacenter.
