Sprint touts single-SIM strategy for global Internet of Things service

Sprint Corp. is expanding its Command Center, a web portal that allows enterprises to control thousands of wireless devices used in health care, transportation and energy management, by offering a single-SIM solution that caters to all their wireless and connectivity needs. Command Center 2.0 offers flexibility in deploying and monitoring connected devices. The global SIM will expand to more than 200 countries and support 2G, 3G, 4G and LTE standards.

Medical tricorder maker Scanadu raises $35 million Series B

Scanadu Inc. has raised $35 million in Series B funding led by Fosun International that included Tencent Holdings, China Broadband Capital, IGlobe Partners, Sungent BioVenture, Relay Ventures and AME Cloud Ventures. Scanadu is best known for its medical tricorder that makes health monitoring at home that much easier.

IoT security gets tough with new initiatives, team ups

BlackBerry Ltd. is stepping into the IoT market and to set itself apart from rivals, it’s focusing on  security with its Center for High Assurance Computing Excellence (CHACE).

Also featured in this roundup is a three-factor authentication for biometric security and the partnership between ScriptRock Inc. and Ninja Blocks Pty Ltd to pioneer security and support for the Internet of Things by shipping GuardRail on chip in the new generation of Ninja Spheres smart home hub.

Wink’s smart home outage and other automation woes

Hackers are now utilizing connected devices in homes such as printers, routers and cameras to launch distributed denial-of-service attacks to targeted websites. Anti-DDoS attack firm NSFocus’ latest research showed that attackers are getting smarter by launching shorter attacks that distract IT personnel.

Also included in this roundup is Wink Hub’s outage due to a security update that rendered some of the hubs useless and Parks Associate Inc.’s recent report that shows how consumers are now more concerned about their privacy and security as more devices connect to the Internet.

New IoT training tools for Bluetooth innovation, hardware dev kits

The Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG) recently announced the Bluetooth Innovation Series, which aims to aid IoT developers bring connected products and applications to market faster.

Also featured in this roundup is Toshiba Corp.’s HDK and SDK for connected health developers and IoT enabler, Validic, raising $12.5 million in a Series B funding for its team and product expansion.
