BlueData updates EPIC to simplify Big Data deployments

One of the main barriers to Big Data deployments is the complexity of the systems needed to run and maintain them on. To try and resolve those issues, BlueData Software Inc. has released a new Big Data platform that aims to keep things simple – it’s offering a turnkey, purpose-built Big Data infrastructure solution that substantially accelerates deployments times.

Called BlueData EPIC 2.0, the platform is underpinned by Docker container technology. The technology help to simplify Big Data clusters so enterprise can quickly and easily deploy platforms like Hadoop or Spark in a lightweight container environment. EPIC 2.0 also comes with and added functionality for Apache Spark. There’s also an enhanced app store offering one-click access to a variety of Hadoop distributions from the likes of Cloudera Inc. and Hortonworks Inc., plus a variety of data analytics tools from companies like AtScale Inc. and Splunk Inc.

EPIC 2.0 also offers greater integration and support for various new Spark innovations, such as Apache Zeppelin, a tool for data exploration and visualization. EPIC 2.0 is also able to accelerate Spark data analysis by enabling self-service clusters that are pre-integrated with Zeppelin notebooks, and its ease of use also means it can set up by organizations that lack the technical expertise for traditional Spark deployments. Finally, EPIC 2.0 adds support for SparkR, Spark Streaming, Spark Streaming-SQL and Mlib. All in all, it promises to be a comprehensive option for organizations looking to simplify and accelerate their on-premise Spark deployments, either in standalone mode or on top of Hadoop.

“BlueData’s mission has always been to provide customers with an ‘easy button’ for Big Data. EPIC 2.0 builds upon this mission and further extends our ability to offer Big-Data-as-a-Service in a multi-tenant, on-premises deployment model,” Kumar Sreekanti, CEO of BlueData, said in prepared remarks. “Our software innovations continue to break new ground and shatter pre-conceived assumptions about deploying Big Data infrastructure and applications. With just a few mouse clicks, our customers can now deploy instant clusters for Hadoop, Spark, and other Big Data tools running on Docker containers”.

BlueData will be talking more about EPIC 2.0 during the Strata + Hadoop Summit in New York next week.
