What you missed in the Smart World: Retail store for IoT launched, Siri-like app to protect IoT data
In Palo Alto, California, consumers who want to try out a connected device can now head over to a physical storefront for in-person demos. Plus, a new Siri-like app is out aimed at protecting Internet of Things (IoT) data, and new SmartPoles with wireless tech will be deployed on the streets of San Jose, California.

New luxurious item trackers coming in 2016
Renowned French designer Philippe Starck and Paris-based tech company Wistiki SAS has teamed up for the “end of lost” line that aims to help people not lose their items in a smart and luxurious manner. There are four items in the line — voilà!, hopla!, ahā!, and ta-da! — which caters to a user’s different needs or lifestyle. All these Bluetooth trackers share the same features, such as tracking an item where the devices are attached, as well as using the tracker to locate your phone.

This Smart Lock turns on your lights when you get home, sends mobile alerts when you’re away
A new smart lock called BLUEGUARD-E launched on Kickstarter PBC. The device aims to make entry and exit monitoring easier, whether using mechanical keys, smartphone apps, key codes or key fobs to gain entry. The smart lock comes packaged with an LED bulb that acts as a bridge that connects the lock to a home network, and it ensures that a light comes on when the user gets home.

Cognitive Code releases secure Siri-like app aimed at protecting IoT data
Cognitive Code, Inc. announced the availability and development of SILVIA Secure, conversationally intelligent apps that can be made natively available on connected devices such as smartphones, tablets, TVs, cars, toys and more. The apps aim to make communications between these connected devices more secure in order to protect user data.

Philips and City of San Jose to deploy technologically advanced SmartPoles
Royal Philips has teamed up with the City of San Jose and Pacific Gas & Electric Co. to deliver its SmartPoles to streets of the city. The SmartPoles not only reduce consumption of energy with LED bulbs, but also deliver 4G LTE wireless technology.

Silver Spring Networks introduces Starfish network for IoT
Silver Spring Networks, Inc. announced Starfish, a new network dedicated to IoT devices. Also announced are new tools that would help device and software developers make their IoT projects available to consumers faster.

IoT Retail-as-a-Service store opens in Palo Alto, CA
Four Nest Labs, Inc. alumni launched a new startup called b8ta, which aims to make IoT device shopping easier for consumers. b8ta is a physical store in Palo Alto, CA, where IoT devices are displayed and employees can demonstrate each product to interested consumers. This way, consumers will get to experience first hand what each product can do for them before they make a purchase.
