Move Guides synchs up with PwC in bid to transform relocation

Cloud relocation platform Move Guides Ltd. has entered into a partnership with PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP (PwC) to add the Big Four consulting firm’s mobility tax, immigration, consulting and compliance offerings to its service lineup.

The four-year-old Move Guides, which has raised more than $25 million in venture funding, is aiming to shake up the manually intensive process of relocating employees, a task that typically involves dozens of moving parts, contractors, regulations and, consequently, failure points. Move Guides proposes to automate many of these tasks through a network of service providers and a cloud-based dashboard that human resources professionals can use to coordinate schedules and costs with a minimum of phone-calling. Move Guides estimates the size of the “talent mobility” market at $150 billion per year globally and says some large enterprises spend as much as $300 million annually moving people around.

“One of the tenets of a software company is taking complex processes, centralizing the data and putting them into a single user experience,” said Move Guides CEO Brynne Herbert. “Can I look at my mobile phone and figure out exactly where my stuff is? Employees want less hand-holding, and calling someone is the last thing they want to do.”

Move Guides is seeking to make the process as automated as possible by enabling relocation managers to use the cloud to tap into local resources for tasks like finding housing, enrolling children in schools and arranging for prompt delivery of personal effects. The service also acts as a clearing house for payments and provides reports and tax documents. The latter is particularly important since some relocation benefits are taxable.

The PwC alliance will give customers immediate access to the consulting firm’s tools for calculating taxes, estimating costs and preparing immigration forms, as well as expertise in international relocation and compliance advice. “People often incur tax liabilities in other jurisdictions, so they have complicated personal income tax situations that PwC helps them resolve,” Herbert said. Initial services will be offered on a referral basis, but over time they will be integrated into the Move Guides dashboard, she said, declining to provide details.

Move Guides expects a 300% growth in revenue this year, Herbert said. The company employs more than 100 people.
