iOS 10 beta 4 out now: 100+ new emojis, tweaked keyboard sounds, bug fixes, more

Apple has released the latest beta – beta 4 – for iOS 10 to developers. With the official fall release date for the operating system fast approaching, the latest beta consists mainly of minor tweaks, general stability changes, and bug fixes, but also some new features like new emojis.

If you have already installed the previous three iOS 10 betas, you will be able to get iOS 10 beta 4 as an over-the-air download.

On the other hand, if you have opted to download the iOS 10 public beta, you will have to wait a few days before the beta 4 changes are available in an updated public beta.  

Here’s a look at the latest features and fixes that have been revealed so far in iOS 10 beta 4, including 100+ new emojis, tweaked keyboard sounds, and more.

100+ new emojis

In September, iPhone and iPad users will get access to over 100 new emojis that includes additional gender options for existing characters and professions, like a female swimmer and cyclist emojis and male haircut and massage emojis. All of the new emoji are also available in various different skin tones.

There are new rainbow flag and family options, popular emojis has been redesigned while the pistol emoji has been replaced with a water gun emoji.

Haptic feedback when locking your iPhone – removed

In iOS 10 beta 3, released less than two weeks ago, Apple introduced a haptic feedback buzz when you locked your iPhone to let you know it was secure. In the latest beta, this feature has been removed.

Tweaked keyboard sounds

Apple reintroduced keyboard sound in iOS 10 beta 3 and these have been tweaked slightly in the latest beta. Backspace has a unique sound while there are also new sounds for shift, return, space bar and number/emoji shift.  

Date on the widgets screen

In beta 4 of iOS 10 the date is now visible on the widgets screen, which is accessible by swiping right in the Notification Center. The date was missing in previous iOS 10 betas.

Intro screen for the Control Center

When the Control Center is opened for the first time there is a new intro screen, which details how you can access the various Control Center cards by swiping left.  

Color Filters

Head over to the Settings app > Accessibility > Color Filters and you will find the color grid has been replaced with a set of colored pencils.

Old wallpapers removed

In iOS 10 beta 4, Apple has removed some older wallpapers. The wallpaper depicting a mountain and stars, which was available in a previous version of iOS has been re-added with the latest beta.    

Home app icons

The Home app icons, in the Control Center, have received additional tweaks in iOS 10 beta 4.

Health app

The Health app in iOS 10 beta 4 has some tweaks to layout and colors; however, the videos within the Health app remain as placeholders at this stage.
