Nutanix and IBM gear up for cognitive systems demand
With its pioneering technology to combine storage and servers, Nutanix Inc. has positioned itself as a key player in the hyperconverged market. Just last month, the company joined with IBM Corp. in a multi-year initiative to target workload solutions in large enterprises. That joint effort is focused on simplifying compatible architectures across data centers, particularly when it comes to dealing with cognitive workloads.
“It’s about how we bring ease-of-use for cognitive workloads and allow clients to work in machine learning and deep learning,” said Stefanie Chiras (pictured right), vice president of Power Systems offering management, systems of engagement, at IBM.
Chiras appeared on the set of theCUBE, SiliconANGLE’s mobile livestreaming studio, along with Raja Mukhopadhyay (pictured left), vice president of project management at Nutanix, and answered questions from hosts Dave Vellante (@dvellante) and Stu Miniman (@stu) during the Nutanix.NEXT event in Washington, D.C. They discussed how both companies are realigning their technology to meet the intelligent systems needs of customers. (* Disclosure below.)
Customers need to read unstructured data
The partnership between IBM and Nutanix is designed to deliver a turnkey solution for the rapidly-growing hyperconverged market. Because their customers want to run forward-thinking cognitive and data analytics apps across platforms, both companies are building what Mukhopadhyay calls “systems of intelligence” to accurately read unstructured data where patterns are not so obvious.
“The software will be able to come up with insights that will be very hard for human beings to infer,” Mukhopadhyay said.
The companies’ hyperconverged initiative includes a fully integrated one-click management stack with Prism, IBM’s predictive analytics platform. “I can now, with the simplicity of action under Prism for clients who love that look and feel, pick the best infrastructure for the workload,” Chiras stated.
