BIG DATA

What to expect during the ‘Data Citizens’ event: Join theCUBE Nov. 2

For data to be regarded as the new oil, gaining insights that boost business value is critical. As a result, data intelligence comes into the picture based on the use of cutting-edge technologies needed to transform gigantic datasets into useful data insights.

A recent study by Collibra NV revealed that data intelligence maturity was positively correlated to higher levels of business success. However, 65% of the respondents acknowledged facing challenges when identifying and controlling data sources.

“Despite all the innovation that’s gone on over the last decade or more with data, businesses still find that it’s too difficult to get more value from their data initiatives,” said Dave Vellante, theCUBE industry analyst. “Maybe it’s time to rethink data innovation. While a lot of the effort has been focused on more efficiently storing and processing data, perhaps more energy needs to go into thinking about the people and the process side of the equation, meaning making it easier for domain experts to both gain insights from data.”

Join theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s livestreaming studio, and Collibra for a special event on Nov. 2. During the “Data Citizen’s 22” livestream, Vellante and Collibra executives will delve deeper into the importance of data citizenship and a data culture, as well as how the company’s end-to-end data intelligence platform provides enhanced business insights. (* Disclosure below.)

How do data citizens come into play?

Since one of Collibra’s objectives is data unity, bringing people into the picture is fundamental because they ignite the innovation fire. As a result, creating a data culture allows every employee handling data to become a data citizen.

“We define a data citizen as anyone who uses data to do their job,” said Stijn “Stan” Christiaens, co-founder and chief data citizen of Collibra, who spoke to theCUBE in June 2021. “While in the past that might have meant a small group of people, in today’s world every team from sales to marketing to product is data-driven, and everyone is a data citizen.”

A data-centric culture in an organization emerges when everyone comprehends the value of data and knows how to protect and share it. Therefore, this makes data citizenship a two-way street based on trust and responsibility.

“A strong data culture means that teams are able to move fast, quickly and make important decisions based on data, and trust that the data is accurate,” Christiaens pointed out. “Data culture ultimately impacts every aspect of the business, from everyday decisions to your ability to innovate with technology like AI and machine learning.”

Data continues to be at the heart of enterprises, given that the tide is turning toward data-driven insights. Nevertheless, interpreting the volumes of data generated has become cumbersome, and this led to Collibra developing a single data engagement system, called the Data Intelligence Cloud.

“It unites your entire organization to deliver accurate, trusted data for every use, for every user and across every source,” said Felix Van de Maele, founder and chief executive officer of Collibra, during a recent conversation with theCUBE.

For seamless data access, Collibra focuses on low-code, self-service, no-code and automation strategies. As a result, enterprises are able to unlock the value of data in a simple way.

“One of the things we’ve done very successfully since our origin over a decade ago was building a business user-friendly software,” said Jim Cushman, Collibra’s former CPO, who spoke to theCUBE in June 2021. “So business users love working with our software. They can find what they’re looking for, and they don’t need to have some cryptic key of how to work with it.”

Making data comprehension easier

During Snowflake Summit ’22, Collibra Protect with Snowflake was unveiled with the aim of boosting fast and secure data access for better decision-making in the enterprise world. As a result, it provides a best-in-class approach for easier data understanding, management and use based on the integration of flexible governance, data lineage, built-in privacy and a data catalog.

“Collibra and Snowflake are united in our shared goal to make data easier to understand, manage and use,” said Laura Sellers, chief product officer of Collibra, in a product news release. “This joint integration brings crystal-clear visibility into how data is defined and governed, simplifies data access controls across the Snowflake Data Cloud, and empowers businesses with better quality data.

Given that the velocity, variety and volume of data continue to accelerate, Collibra incorporated new tools and integrations to its Data Intelligence Cloud. This move was aimed at optimizing value and boosting productivity.

“Collibra’s new innovations and services are welcome additions to Collibra Data Intelligence Cloud, giving organizations the ability to overcome data-related challenges everywhere, enabling faster delivery of data value and intelligence at scale,” said Stewart Bond, director of data integration and intelligence software research at IDC.

Based on a $5.25 billion valuation in November 2021, Collibra not only propels data quality standards but also speeds up cloud projects, according to Van de Maele.

“We are seeing overwhelming demand for our platform, and the interest from the investor community further validates our approach to helping our customers drive value from their own data,” he stated. “We are the only company in the industry that provides a single, fully integrated cloud-native platform to enable customers to accelerate their digital transformation journey.”
