What to expect during the ‘Cisco Live’ event: Join theCUBE June 9

It’s no secret that networking giant Cisco Systems Inc.’s product line is quite broad, but the assorted nature of its portfolio speaks to its mantra: future-proofing in an increasingly hybrid world.

But as artificial intelligence disrupts traditionally held knowledge in tech and remote work continues to play a role, Cisco is attempting to position itself on the right path for that future, according to Jeetu Patel, executive vice president and general manager of the Security and Collaboration Business Units at Cisco.

“There’s no unanimous consensus in the way that the future is going to be, except that it’s going to be hybrid,” he said during a recent interview with theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s livestreaming studio. “You want to make sure that regardless of where you’re working from, people can have an inclusive experience.”

The company’s strategy will be a chief area of interest during the Cisco Live 2023 event. Join theCUBE analysts on June 9 for a special post-conference broadcast filmed on-site, as they talk with industry professionals about AI, the security angle on networking and more. (* Disclosure below.)

More results expected during the conference

In May, Cisco delivered solid quarterly earnings and revenue beats, but its stock fell on sluggish demand. The company reported a fiscal third-quarter net income of $3.2 billion, up 6% from a year earlier. Cisco did note that remaining performance obligations are at $32.1 billion, up 6%, with 53% to be recognized as revenue over the next 12 months. That indicated supply chain issues are easing, according to Zeus Kerravala, principal analyst at ZK Research.

“One concern I had was that I wasn’t sure if the backlog would fully translate to revenue, as many customers had told me they ordered products from multiple vendors and would cancel once one vendor could meet their demand,” Kerravala said. “Cisco did tell me that order cancellation rates are now below historic levels, and channel partners have confirmed this.”

Looking into the future, it is expected to see an acceleration of the network business as Cisco looks to clean up its portfolio, according to Kerravala.

“In some ways, Cisco has remained successful despite itself. If one looks at the portfolio, Meraki, Catalyst, Nexus, DNA Center, Viptela and the like, it looks like a hodgepodge of products,” he said. “At Cisco Live 2022, the company announced the long-awaited Meraki-Catalyst integration, and I expect to see more in this area come Cisco Live 2023 in June.”

Earlier this year, Cisco held its Cisco Live EMEA conference in Amsterdam, which was full of product announcements. One area to keep an eye out at Cisco Live 2023 is AppDynamics, which is expected to be on-site.
