Power panel insights: Navigating the multicloud landscape

In the ever-evolving landscape of technology, the journey to a digital-first, multicloud world is at the forefront of innovation and enterprise strategy.

During VMware Explore 2023, theCUBE convened a power panel of leading industry experts from Kyndryl Inc., Microsoft Corp., Oracle Corp. and VMware Inc. to dive into the complexities and opportunities presented by the next generation of cloud, artificial intelligence and the concept of the supercloud.

“I think opportunity is exactly the right word,” said Sunil Bhargava (pictured, right), senior vice president of offerings at Kyndryl, “Multicloud presents an opportunity. The value Kyndryl brings to our customers is being able to help understand for their needs and their challenges. What are the right combination of technologies that can deploy the applications on multicloud on the supercloud, ensuring that they get the best of all the investments that our partners are making.”

Bhargava was joined by Monty Bhatia (second from right), vice president of global systems integrators at VMware; Andrew Boe (second from left), director of worldwide partner solution strategy for hybrid cloud Azure VMware Solutions at Microsoft; and Ross Brown (left), senior vice president of cloud partner ecosystem, North America, at Oracle, as they spoke with industry analyst John Furrier (center) at VMware Explore 2023, during an exclusive broadcast on theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s livestreaming studio. They discussed how the world’s focus is shifting toward redefining infrastructure and modernizing applications, insights on navigating the chaos of cloud, human capital investment and the creativity needed to harness the benefits of the multicloud world. Unpacking the multicloud world: The rise of supercloud architectures

The world is witnessing a seismic shift toward a digital-first, multicloud environment. Termed “supercloud,” these architectures are redefining how organizations approach infrastructure and software stacks to power modern applications. This new era brings with it complexity, but also unprecedented opportunity.

The panel debated and explored various topics related to the multicloud world, explaining what this new reality means for businesses navigating through challenges and opportunities.

“Being able to solve for multicloud is not just a matter of having a great plan and stuff like that, but also really taking time to figure out how they’re diverging,” Brown said. “One of the things you’re seeing happen is … we are still at the beginning of the beginning for the cloud. The value of the work that will be built in generative AI to create new IP and new assets for companies to be able to instrument businesses and automated way, the value of that work is a magnitude more than the existing work.”

The role of AI and LLMs in cloud integration

With the growing adoption of cloud computing and AI, businesses must now grapple with how to leverage different technologies across multiple cloud environments. Large language models and generative AI are creating new avenues for innovation and efficiency, fostering creativity in technology.

“We’re at the AI stage. We are just at the beginning of the AI stage,” Bhatia said. “It is extremely important for us to work as an ecosystem to build what’s necessary to come to an agreement, because we’re gonna be having different technology. We need to be coming to an agreement, and we need to have policy and compliance and security all baked into it, because that’s the only thing that’ll take us to that next step of absolutely delivering customer success.”

Cloud chaos and the need for multicloud architectures was also discussed. The multicloud world is not merely a technological evolution; it requires a profound shift in mindset, which is where VMware’s cloud-smart strategy comes into play.

“If we focus on our goals, empowering every person at every organization to do more — and that’s do more with all of us collectively and leverage their history level — the investments that they’ve made up to where AI can build on what they’ve created and really go forward,” Boe said. “It’s an extremely exciting time for all of us.”
