BigID launches new hybrid scanning technology for enhance cloud data management

Data protection firm BigID Inc. today announced a new hybrid scanning solution for cloud native workloads that helps organizations manage and protect cloud data.

The new BigID dual, or “hybrid,” scanning technology combines side-scanning and direct scanning techniques to discover, manage and protect cloud data with speed, efficiency and flexibility, according to the company. Covering cloud data security, privacy and governance, the new dual scanning capability is claimed to be an industry first.

BigID’s dual, hybrid scanning approach delivers several advantages to users. Topping the list is speed and scale, with BigID’s hybrid scanning seamlessly combining side-scanning with direct scanning to rapidly onboard and scan thousands of data sources. Using the service, organizations can leverage the speed of side-scanning for initial discovery and the thoroughness of direct scanning for deeper insights.

The scanning automatically identifies and onboards cloud data sources to provide necessary connection information for both scanning methods. Users can tailor their scanning strategy based on specific needs, optimizing efficiency and resource allocation.

Automated security controls, that leverage insights gleaned from direct scanning, can be used to take immediate action on data risks. Automation can be set across a range of remediation actions, including data masking, deletion and encryption.

In an age of increasing legislation and regulation, the new scanning service also features enhanced compliance management. The feature gives organizations a comprehensive understanding of their cloud data to help comply with data regulations such as the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation and the California Consumer Privacy Act.

By providing a unified platform for hybrid cloud data scanning, BigID says that its new service allows organizations to harness the full potential of the cloud with confidence, with a more secure and compliant cloud environment to unlock the transformative power of their data.

“The exponential growth of cloud data presents significant challenges for organizations seeking comprehensive data security and privacy,” said Chief Executive Dimitri Sirota. “By combining the speed and scalability of side-scanning, with the depth and accuracy of direct scanning, organizations can achieve unmatched visibility and control over their cloud data, ensuring compliance and safeguarding sensitive information.”

BigID is a venture capital-backed startup that was last in the news in March when it raised $60 million in new funding on a valuation of more than $1 billion. Inventors in the company include Riverwood Capital Management LP, Silver Lake Waterman (Silver Lake Management LLC) and Advent International Corp.
