Harnessing automation for global efficiency: Vinmar taps Celonis for logistics success
More than simply quickening workflows, automation exists to keep businesses at peak functioning.
Vinmar International, a distribution company with $5 billion in revenue, began its digital transformation with Celonis SE two years ago. Starting from process mining, the company has since transitioned to implementing Celonis’ Sales Order Execution App to establish touchless logistics and identify potential delays and risks proactively.
“What process mining does is looks at the past and tells you how you can improve for the future,” said Abhi Banerjee (pictured), director of applications and digital transformation at Vinmar. “While the Execution App looks at the future and prevents you from making mistakes now … looking at the implications of that in the future. What we did is we quickly changed direction and started implementing what we call a Sales Order Execution App. The more we mitigate the risk upfront, the more we can ship on time to happy customers.”
Banerjee spoke with theCUBE Research’s Savannah Peterson and Rob Strechay at Celosphere 24, during an exclusive broadcast on theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s livestreaming studio. They discussed how digital transformation, automation and risk management can birth touchless logistics and elevate customer satisfaction. (* Disclosure below.)
The power of orchestration and touchless logistics
Celonis’ Orchestration Engine plays a pivotal role in Vinmar’s automation strategy, transforming operations into touchless logistics, according to Banerjee. The goal is to automate order processing — from fulfillment to invoicing — minimizing human intervention unless deviations occur.
“At any given time, we have thousands of sales orders open in our system, and we have a large number of our workforce just dedicated to making sure that our customers receive the order on time,” Banerjee said. “That heavy lift was a perfect use case for Celonis, because the Celonis Process Mining Engine can be fine-tuned to make sure that we identify the risk well in advance.”
One of the primary benefits of Vinmar’s automation implementation is its significant impact on key performance indicators, such as on-time shipment delivery. Reaching near-perfection in on-time shipments is a competitive advantage, especially in logistics, Banerjee noted.
“We have successfully implemented it for one of our business units,” he said. “This is a fairly large business unit, worth more than $700 million. And automatically, without human intervention, it is able to take an order for shipment to actual fulfillment and is managed by Celonis Orchestration Engine.”
