Identify verification company Trulioo Inc. today announced new advances in its Identity Document Verification service, including its artificial intelligence and machine learning models.
The improvements seek to address a rise in advanced fraud techniques such as ID alterations and deepfakes, which Truiloo noted now account for 16% of all attacks. With the challenge at hand, the company has been building and refining its AI and machine learning models to fend off sophisticated fraud while ensuring accuracy and minimizing friction for users.
The upgrades deliver a 60% reduction in document processing times, enabling faster identity verification and a smoother user experience. The improvements are also said by Trulioo to deliver a 20% increase in verification success rates and a 20% boost in auto-approval rates, reducing the need for manual reviews.
The upgrades include technical enhancements such as a “next-generation” auto-capture system that uses machine learning to automatically capture high-quality images per second. The system delivers better real-time fraud detection and more accurate biometric verification.
Trulioo has also introduced advanced face-matching capabilities powered by deep learning and convolutional neural networks. The models analyze facial features to deliver a highly accurate similarity score for identity verification.
Another update is intelligent document and liveness authentication, which verifies documents by detecting embedded security features and confirming that the ID is live and unaltered. The feature reduces reliance on manual verification and strengthens regulatory compliance.
The platform also now includes more robust fraud detection tools that analyze selfies and documents for signs of tampering, deepfakes, or digital manipulation. Pattern recognition is applied to identify anomalies in security features such as holograms and microprinting.
“We built our proprietary, in-house machine learning models from the ground up, which gives us the agility to quickly respond to new threats and our customers’ evolving needs,” said Chief Technology Officer Hal Lonas. “We’re transforming the way businesses verify identities and defend against sophisticated fraud.”
Trulioo is a venture capital-backed startup that has raised $477 million over eight rounds, including a round of $394 million in June 2021. Investors include Technology Crossover Ventures LP, American Express Ventures, Citi Ventures Inc., Blumberg Capital and Mouro Capital S.L.
