Artificial intelligence-powered enterprise resource planning and data platform startup Doss announced today that it has raised $18 million in new funding to expand internationally and to continue to build out its core platform.
Founded in 2022, Doss offers an ERP and data platform designed to streamline and automate complex business operations. The company’s flagship product, the Adaptive Resource Platform, or DossARP, integrates various business functions such as inventory management, order processing, accounting and production into a single, cohesive system.
Doss seeks to address various issues in ERP. it describes the software as having an “uneven scorecard,” since the ERP implementation failure rate, depending on whether the source is Gartner or McKinsey, is between 55% and 75%, with typical projects lasting 12 to 18 months. Added to the mix are findings that half of teams that implemented ERP solutions believe the projects failed to achieve even half the return on investment promised during the pre-sales process.
“For every dollar spent on ERP software, three are spent on the surrounding professional services: maintenance, support and implementation,” explained co-founder and Chief Executive Wiley Jones. “These fees make up anywhere from 50% to 80% of the total cost of ownership of an ERP.”
Jones noted that SAP will celebrate its 53rd anniversary this month. “The market is filled with what are undeniably great companies, but they’ve categorically destroyed the goodwill of their customer base and aren’t incentivized to join the AI platform shift,” he said. “By being one of the few to embrace newer technologies, we’re not just going after the software licenses. We think the entire market is up for grabs.”
To tackle issues in ERP implementation, Doss has created a novel ERP architecture with ergonomics designed for both humans and large language models. The architecture is an entirely composable, loosely connected collection of databases, cloud services and workflows that can be easily reconfigured by AI agents.
The result is that Doss can be implemented in an enterprise in as little as two days, versus incumbent systems that can take years to implement. The ease of use has been key to the company’s growth, with Doss counting among its customers Spread the Love LLC, Caulipuffs Inc. and Noodles & Co. Corp.
Theory Ventures LP led the Series A round. As part of the deal, Tomasz Tunguz, founder of Theory Ventures, will join the Doss board.
“Today’s ERP platforms are built on legacy architectures that will not keep up with modern software needs and the coming AI revolution,” said Tunguz.
