Microsoft has finally landed on the iPhone. The company has released its Office Mobile for Office 365 subscribers. Yup, that’s the whole title of the app, a bit mouthful, but it gets right to the point.
First off, before you go celebrating that Microsoft Office is in iOS, there’s a catch, the app is useless if you don’t have an Office 365 subscription, thus the lengthy title. But at least the app is free for download.
Office 365 is Microsoft’s cloud-based subscription service that offers access to various services and software built around the Microsoft Office platform.
The app lets users access view and edit their Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and Microsoft PowerPoint documents from virtually anywhere. Users won’t have to worry about how the documents look on a smaller screen as the app has support for charts, animations, SmartArt graphics and shapes.
You also won’t have to worry about screwing up your document when you make quick edits or add comments to a document, as the formatting and content remain intact. Office Mobile also features editing while offline, creating new docments on your iPhone, and sharing options to SkyDrive or SharePoint.
Aside from having an Office 365 account, and users need to have Microsoft Office installed on their PC to access features such as recent documents and resume reading.
The app is compatible with iPhone 4, 4S, 5, iPod Touch 5th generation running iOS 6.1 or later. It’s quite interesting how Microsoft did not include the iPad in its lineup of supported devices given the fact that document viewing, editing or creation is suited on a larger screen. iPad owners can only hope that a version for their device will soon come.
