Zenoss Re-Architects Management Solution with New Engine, Visualizations

Unified IT monitoring firm Zenoss has pulled the curtains back on the latest version of Zenoss Service Dynamics, its flagship operations management and analytics solution. The new version promises to deliver “service-level context” across physical, virtual and private and public cloud environments, as well hybrid deployments.

The release introduces a streamlined ETL process, a reorganized schema and an upgraded business intelligence engine that supports in-memory columnar queries. Other additions include self service data mining and filtering, a new RESTful API for integration with front-end analytics tools, and additional graph libraries. The company says that its solution empowers admins to identify performance issues and event trends based on service impact, optimize capacity planning and streamline provisioning.

“In this age of software-defined everything, private and public clouds, and BYOD, the complexity of ensuring IT service performance and availability 24/7 is a constant challenge,” stated Alan Conley, the chief technology officer of Zenoss. “With our updated analytics, customers get a single view of whether or not they’re delivering services adequately to the end user, and can isolate potential issues. Plus they can predict issues that haven’t surfaced yet and proactively address them with intelligent capacity planning.”

The Zenoss Service Dynamics update comes on the heels of an equally notable announcement from Splunk. The machine data powerhouse unveiled Splunk App for VMware 3.0, a highly scalable operational analytics tool that provides admins with insights into their virtual environments. The platform is available with 25 report templates that provide visibility into virtual machine performance, bottlenecks and other metrics that pertain to system health.

Two weeks prior to the debut of the new Splunk App, the vendor announced that it has teamed up with visualization specialist Pentaho to deliver a combined solution that couples real time analytics with ad hoc querying.
