Show me the money: Tinder's new Plus service will allow undos, wider searches at a priceDating app maker Tinder Inc. is said to be preparing to launch its new paid premium service that will include a number of long requested features.

The service, named Tinder Plus, will include an undo button that allows users who are having second thoughts to rewind a swipe. Another service called Passport will allow users to widen their search area to find more people with whom to hook up.

The source of the news comes via a few lines in a recent Tinder app update that mentioned the Undo button and Passport. TechCrunch claims that a source at Tinder says the service is ready to go, but they’re waiting until March to formally launch the service.

There’s no official word on the pricing for Tinder Plus, but recent rumors suggest a $6.99 monthly subscription.

The new service will be a step forward for Tinder, which while becoming the market leading hook-up app hasn’t really had strong opportunity to build revenue outside of splash ads between user transactions, a business that was predicted to bring the company only $75 million in 2014.

A paid version, or in particular an ongoing monthly paid service from Tinder, isn’t going to appeal to all of its user base, but it doesn’t have to. As of October 2014 Tinder was said to be approaching 50 million active users; if only one percent of those users sign up to the premium service at $6.99 per month for 12 months, that’s $41.9 million in revenue Tinder didn’t have before, and all for adding two seeming basic features. It’s hard to quantify just how many people will pay for an ongoing monthly subscription like this though; although perhaps somewhat a apples versus oranges comparison, Spotify has 1 in 4 of its users paying for premium. If Tinder could get to 25 percent paid that’s annual revenue of $1.048 billion a year.
