Google TV Being Blocked by Networks. YouTube Deja Vu?

Google’s plans to expand the web towards television seem to be hardened by three major TV networks that blocked their access on Google TV.

The ABC network and cable TV business ESPN’s owner – Walt Disney Co and NBC Universal stated their position towards the broadcast of TV shows on Google TV. CBS misses a straight comment upon this issue that is considered to be similar with the YouTube’s similar approach.

The advertising power of Google can be improved with the help of  Sony Corp and Logitech International’s support which will provide the necessary devices for Google TV. This key point is also mentioned by Gartner analyst Van Baker „suddenly Google’s power becomes enormous in the advertising space and the broadcasters don’t like that idea”.

While Google legitimizes its new market spread towards television, Google TV is supported by HBO, which announced early this month that it will offer plenty of its programs via internet.

Google generates $24 billion revenues annually from advertising, and this might be the reason for which the television networks are afraid of.  Combine that with the $10 billion yearly income Google expects from Android, and you can see what big plans the company has for mainstream media distribution.

In related news, Viacom has brought on a high-profile appellate attorney to handle its long-standing lawsuit with Google.
