Slalom GM shares her take on why cloud adoption is trending upward

There’s a divide in the enterprise computing space on whether companies should go full-on cloud, employ hybrid infrastructures, or remain on-premises with their data.

While there isn’t a consensus yet, the adoption numbers on cloud are clearly trending upward, casting an optimistic light on what’s to come.

I think they’re flocking to the cloud,” said Hilary Feier (pictured), general manager of data and analytics at Slalom LLC. “I think COVID had people flock there. You realize the agility it provides for you; it is unparalleled.”

Feier spoke with theCUBE industry analyst Dave Vellante and Lisa Martin at Snowflake Summit, during an exclusive broadcast on theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s livestreaming studio. They discussed Slalom as an integral part of the Snowflake partner ecosystem and the future of cloud computing. (* Disclosure below.)

Security concerns are now a top organizational priority

“Cloud repatriation” is used to describe organizations pulling resources and data away from the cloud, either due to high costs, a feeling of unmet expectations, or a myriad of other reasons. Oftentimes, organizations also repatriate due to security concerns. But cloud solutions providers are better at securing workloads now than ever, according to Feier.

“It’s a top board priority. Last year I actually spent time internally helping implement Snowflake for us at Slalom,” Feier explained. “And our president’s top priority was security. We were a little out of date, we needed to modernize, we needed to migrate, and we wanted to practice what we preach with our customers.”

Being in the Snowflake partner ecosystem puts companies like Slalom at the forefront and in a position to influence innovation and advancements in cloud, according to Feier, Slalom, in particular, is reaping considerable returns from the partnership, sharing over 200 customers with over 1,800 joint engagements — and winning Partner of the Year five times to date.

“I think the secret sauce to me is we started early and we liked the product, but we had a lot of core values in common,” Feier concluded.
