Prosimo and Palo Alto Networks collaborate to bring zero trust to multicloud environments

Multicloud networking sofware company Prosimo Inc. today announced a new integration with Palo Alto Networks Inc. to bring zero trust to application workloads and multicloud environments.

The partnership sees Prosimo’s Full Stack Cloud Transit platform now integrating with Palo Alto’s VM-Series Virtual Next-Generation Firewall, allowing enterprises to deploy security as close as possible to the workload they protect. The architecture addresses challenges and gaps to secure application access across multicloud environments for users and workloads.

Prosimo argues that most integrations today focus on orchestrating firewalls and inserting them in the path of cloud network traffic, where they rely on IP addresses and port numbers to redirect traffic. Prosimo’s approach, with the integration of Palo Alto Networks, is claimed to differ by delivering a more targeted approach that directs only traffic requiring advanced inspection to the firewall.

The integration sees Prisimo offering two flexible deployment models for Palo Alto Networks VM-Series virtual firewalls — centralized and distributed.

With the centralized option, the VM-Series virtual firewall is deployed into a centralized virtual private cloud for east-west — between virtual private clouds —  or north-south, which means internet egress and ingress and cloud to on-premises traffic. For the distributed option, the VM-Series virtual firewalls are deployed in each virtual private cloud, in cases where VPCs need to be isolated and require local ingress or egress.

The integration ensures enhanced security and scalability across the network and application-layer. Palo Alto Networks Next-Generation Firewalls offer comprehensive Layer 7 inspection, while Prosimo delivers network segmentation spanning Layer 3 to Layer 7, alongside zero-trust access for all traffic patterns in the cloud.

“Integrating Prosimo’s Full Stack Cloud Transit and Palo Alto Networks VM-Series virtual firewall makes network security teams’ lives easier,” said Vitaliy Sivetskiy, senior product manager at Palo Alto Networks. “Our single intuitive operating model for connectivity and virtual firewall insertion means customers have more time to focus on application business innovation versus managing network and security infrastructure. This enables organizations to help protect all clouds, the right way, with agility.”

Prosimo is a venture capital-backed startup, having raised $55 million over two rounds, according to Tracxn. Investors in the company include BlackRock Inc., General Catalyst Group Management LLC, DTCP Usa LLC, Celesta Capital LLC and Redline Capital Management LLC.
