Digital Edge raises $1.6B to fund Asian data center expansion

Digital Edge Holdings Pte Ltd., a hyperscale data center developer and operator backed by private equity firm Stonepeak Infrastructure Partners, today announced it has secured over $1.6 billion to fund an expansion across Asia.

The company said the capital will include about $640 million of equity from existing and new investors and included $1 billion in debt.

Established in 2020, Digital Edge owns and operates 21 data centers with more than 500 megawatts of power across the Asia Pacific region in six countries. The company has a further 300 megawatts currently under development on campuses in Japan, Korea, India, Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines in an effort to keep up with customer demands for cloud, artificial intelligence and connectivity needs.

Samuel Lee, Chief Executive of Digital Edge said this funding would be used to deliver the “next phase of AI-ready data center developments” for the company.

In October, Digital Edge opened its third data center in Korea, known as SEL2 on the 100-megawatt Incheon campus located in the outskirts of Seoul. The location currently has one 36-megawatt building and is expected to become one of the largest commercial data center projects in the region upon completion, according to the company. Digital Edge also recently expanded its data center in Jakarta, Indonesia by opening a 23-megawatt facility earlier this year.

Digital Edge said it will also use the funds to open the first facility for a 300-megawatt campus in Navi Mumbai, India, in the second quarter of 2025, as well as launch a hyperscale edge facility in downtown Tokyo known as TY07, which is the company’s ninth data center in Japan.
