iPhone 5 Rumor Roundup as Apple Event Nears

It seems ever since iPhone 4 was launched by Apple a year back, there have been all kinds of rumors about Apple’s next model, notably called the iPhone 5 or iPhone 4S.  And as people get more and more excited about Apple’s iPhone announcement next week (October 4), it’s time to catch up with some of the buzz on the rumors and gossip around this hotcake product.

Keep in mind, all of these still remain rumors–there has been nothing official from Apple’s camp. An infographic was released just before the launch date reveals where the rumors have generated and how widespread it became, circulating in the tech blogs and beyond.  One of the most prolific sources of rumors came from DigiTimes, citing the likes of ‘industry check,’ ‘people familiar with the situation,’ ‘well placed sources,’ and ‘a reliable source.’

Let’s brief some of these rumors:

Design

  • DigiTimes reveals that the iPhone 5 will have curved display with glass screen, as seen in Samsung Nexus S.

Storage Capacity

  • The latest iPhone 5 is set to come in three storage capacities: 16GB, 32GB and 64GB.

Hardware Specifications

  • iPhone 5 will have Apple’s A5 dual core processor.
  • The phone is likely to have an upgraded camera, up to 8MP.
  • White and black color versions at launch.
  • A new antenna design.
  • Thinner and lighter design.
  • The latest iPhone would have 1GB of RAM and a larger display screen then iPhone 4.
  • No Flash on front camera.
  • NFC support.
  • Support for HSDPA+ and UNPO.

Carrier

  • AT&T and Verizon, Sprint along with Premier Program plans. T-Mobile would not carry the iPhone this year.

Software

  • Apple might release the next generation iPhone with its next version of mobile software, iOS 5.

Suppliers

  • DigiTimes writes that iPhone part suppliers were from Taiwan. China’s Foxconn Electronics is currently producing 150,000 iPhone 5 units a day. The company has manufactured iPhones in the past.

As seen in past, whenever Apple is set to launch a new product, a massive amount of interest and rumors are generated.  But all these rumors are only warmed up the mobile competition, as every player are gearing up to provide more sophisticated technology to consumers.
