ScaleXtreme has launched Dynamic Server Assembly into general availability, a new feature that’s now included in its ScaleXtreme Xpress and ScaleXtreme Xpert cloud software. The solution, which is available in both a free and a premium edition, aims to help companies provision and run cloud deployments across a number of cloud service providers as well as in-house facilities. It was first launched back in August.
Dynamic Server Assembly expands the original functionality that the solution provided by giving users the ability to model, provision and launch servers across Amazon Web Services, OpenStack and the other platforms ScaleXtreme supports. They can also automate this process by creating a system template.
“It is important for enterprises to ensure they automate the process of building, launching and managing their servers and create repeatable server configurations to help scale their deployments. This also allows them to easily transport their server configuration from one cloud provider to another, using technology like Dynamic Server Assembly,” said Bernd Harzog, analyst at The Virtualization Practice in a press release.
ScaleXtreme has forged a number of partnerships throughout 2010 and 2011, extending support to more cloud platforms and opening up its solution to a broader range of customers. One of the latest services it added is Citrix CloudStack, which is based on the virtualization vendor’s acquisition of Cloud.com last year.
Several of the cloud platforms ScaleXtreme supports have had updates recently as well. Amazon opened its fourth datacenter in the U.S, near the Columbia River in Boardman, Oregon. The new facility also marks the web company’s seventh datacenter worldwide. They also released new supercomputer clusters, vastly expanding Amazon’s cloud capabilities for the enterprise.
Rackspace in turn launched Rackspace Cloud: Private Edition, a new private cloud reference that’s designed for medium to large scale deployments and is build on the latest OpenStack release dubbed Diablo. The cloud host will be offering paid services along with the freely available architecture.
