NetApp Completes Akorri Acquisition, Expands Virtualization Tech

After completing the terms under their definitive agreement, NetApp announced that the acquisition of Akorri Networks, Inc., a cross-domain storage and virtualization management software, has finally settled down at an all-cash transaction, nearing $60 million.

The customer base of Akorri Networks has doubled over the past year as they adopt and expand their server virtualization technology to accommodate the needs of enterprises. Akorri’s BalancePoint helps customers identify performance bottlenecks; improve storage capacity planning; and free up the time, people, and budget resources needed to run virtual environments, and will complement NetApp OnCommand management software suite with performance capacity analytics and optimization for greater visibility across the entire IT stack, including applications, servers, networks, and storage. The combination of NetApp and Akorri technologies will give rise to the industry’s leading capabilities for storage management and analytics.

Gartner placed Akorri in the Visionaries quadrant and NetApp in the Leaders quadrant for Storage Resource Management and SAN Management Software. To avail of Akorri’s BalancePoint, here’s a complete list of their channel partners. It will be available for NetApp as well on its 2012 first fiscal quarter.

Prior to the acquisition, NetApp has fostered a number of college partnerships to bring storage-related IT skills to students via its NetApp Academic Program. The company is also making efforts to respond to the growing demands for storage server and space. Central Connecticut State University recently decided to build its infrastructure on NetApp IT and virtualization solutions for a more efficient and scalable storage infrastructure without buying more disks.
