JetBrains updates Space with flexible notification management

JetBrains, a company that creates an extended family of development environments for programming languages, has released a notification management update to Space, its all-in-one collaboration solution for software projects and creative teams.

JetBrains Space assists teams with chats, project management, issue tracking, Git hosting, continuous integration and deployment and package repositories all in one space. It can be used to simplify work for developers by allowing them to track their communication in one place by minimizing distractions and what is called “context switching” (or switching between apps) by being the only tool they need to use.

Space is now introducing an easy way to manage incoming notifications and triage which ones are important to highlight in users’ personal feeds or divert them to group chats for the entire team when appropriate.

“Our goal with Space is to allow software developers and other teams working with them to collaborate efficiently and focus on their work,” said Sergey Shkredov, team lead at JetBrains Space. “Space enables it by intelligently managing notifications about new issues, commits, blog posts, and any other updates you’re interested in while keeping the distractions away.”

The update introduced “Spacebox,” the new personal feed, which intelligently highlights the most relevant notifications crossing the user’s virtual desk. During the day users can customize their notification preferences according to what they want to see within Spacebox and as well as within any of their feeds or group channel.

With the customization controls, users could create a feed designed to take only critical notifications so that they could be handled immediately. Less important information could be placed into other channels that could be checked less frequently.

This way users can separate important notifications from noise more easily and rise above distractions.

As another example, it would be possible to set up a notification filter that notifies the team within the #DevOps channel anytime a critical issue was attached that the team needed to know about immediately. Whereas, lower priority signals could be shuffled to different chats in order to lower clutter.

JetBrains launched Space in December and the company said that the product is already used by over 30,000 companies of different industries.
