BIG DATA

Alteryx puts automated analytics in the spotlight on Mar. 1

Seventy percent of organizations want to be more data driven; 88% still face technology constraints, and 95% struggle with operational challenges around data and analytics.

Those were a few of the findings from an IDC Infobrief, commissioned by analytics automation company Alteryx Inc. and released in early February. The report highlighted a fundamental problem: Mountains of raw data piling up every day across global businesses are hurting their productivity and ability to derive insights.

TheCUBE, SiliconANGLE’s livestreaming studio, and Alteryx will examine the evolving data analytics market in the “Accelerating Automated Analytics in the Cloud With Alteryx event,” airing on March 1 at 9:00 a.m. EST.

Data democratization grows

IDC’s study with Alteryx illustrates how the past decade of big data has brought complexity and a need for skills to deliver on technology’s promise. Reliance purely on specialized data experts has not been enough to get results. Organizations need to expand the number of people that can easily analyze and gain insights from data, giving rise to a movement toward data democratization.

Alteryx has embraced this trend through several key acquisitions over the past year that were designed to expand the base of analytics users and solve problems of gaining insights from data at scale.

“Relying on spreadsheets for vital data work is like trying to power a rocket ship with a calculator,” said Suresh Vittal, chief product officer at Alteryx, in his comments on the IDC report’s release. “Businesses now need to reduce data and analytics complexity and uplevel the tools data workers are given. With 100,000 lifetimes wasted annually on analytics inefficiency, the time for a paradigm shift is now.”

The agenda for “Accelerating Automated Analytics in the Cloud With Alteryx,” on March 1 includes interviews with company executives and thought leaders on navigating the challenges of a data-driven world through automation and upskilling the modern workforce. (* Disclosure below.)

Two key acquisitions

Alteryx is no newcomer to the world of data analytics. The company was founded under a different name in the mid-1990s, and early versions of its technology powered analysis of U.S. Census data.

Alteryx’s customer base contains some very familiar enterprise names. Clients currently include Netflix, Walgreens, Chevron, Visa, Wells Fargo and Facebook.

The past year has been significant for the firm, with two key acquisitions. In October, Alteryx announced the purchase of Hyper Anna, a cloud platform for generating AI-driven automated insights from data. That was followed by the acquisition of Trifacta Inc. in early February, which provides users with scalable, native and secure cloud data engineering capabilities for all major cloud deployments.

“Trifacta is a SaaS solution, which could help accelerate Alteryx’s move into cloud services,” said analyst Doug Henschen of Constellation Research Inc., during a recent interview with SiliconANGLE.

Trifacta’s close partnership with Google LLC and popularity with data engineers could provide future value for the firm, according to Henschen.

Partnership with Snowflake

Alteryx has cultivated a partnership with data cloud company Snowflake Inc. for at least half a decade. In 2017, Alteryx provided an in-database connector for Snowflake, which offered enterprises an ability to run advanced analytics rapidly within the Snowflake environment.

A little over one year ago, the two companies unveiled a new partnership that allowed users to leverage Alteryx’s tools for data transformation directly in Snowflake. At the time of the announcement, Alteryx indicated that the two partners had approximately 500 customers in common.

TheCUBE’s event will also discuss how Alteryx is integrating with data platforms like Snowflake and what this means for customers in the analytics market.
