As Nvidia hits $4T market cap, when does the AI investment frenzy peak?

With Nvidia hitting a market capitalization of $4 trillion, it’s time to wonder if we could be hitting some kind of peak in investor interest in artificial intelligence.

But it sure hasn’t shown up yet. This week we saw Amazon considering another huge investment in Anthropic — perhaps to help it field an AI agent marketplace reportedly coming next week — as well as a possible billion-dollar funding of Mistral by MGX and a potential big funding at up to a $200 billion valuation for xAI. There was also a raft of smaller but still substantial fundings of more targeted AI companies such as Harmonic and LangChain, both for $100 million.

Not least, there’s real product here: We saw a renewed rush of new models, especially those focused on AI agents. And big money keeps going into the infrastructure behind all this, as CoreWeave bought data center building Core Scientific for $9 billion. GlobalFoundries also bought processor design house MIPS to expand its product line.

It’s hard to imagine every part of this investment frenzy ends well — especially with Elon Musk’s xAI touting the glories of Hitler and the bad guys using AI to impersonate government officials (something that enterprises had better pay attention to) — but for now, it’s all dancing in the streets. Enjoy it while you can.

Amazon Web Services held a Mid-Year Leadership Summit with theCUBE, and we got a lot of editorial, unsponsored interviews with AWS execs, topped by CEO Matt Garman — well worth checking out.

To close out on a more entertaining note, the Trump-Musk feud intensified, if that’s possible, to the extent that it tanked Tesla’s stock for a day. Meantime, Musk’s seemingly invisible CEO of X, Linda Yaccarino, finally left after what must have been a miserable couple of years.

Here’s all the news this week from SiliconANGLE and beyond:
